We are often asked about the garment care, washing and storage of our alpaca goods, so we thought we’d put together a handy guide to help you care for all your alpaca items and keep them in their best condition. Alpaca is extremely resistant and performs better than other wool, and our garments are made to last and are renowned for their exceptional quality and durability. With proper care, your garments should stay soft and in great shape for a long time - and they can actually improve with age! Washing Instructions We strongly recommend that you only dry clean or hand wash alpaca products in cool or lukewarm water (10-2 degrees) using a mild detergent or baby shampoo. Please don’t use fabric conditioner. Rinse it by gently pressing it only.

Care of Alpaca Socks

Most of our socks that are made from an alpaca blend to make them more durable, and as such may be washed in the washing machine on a 30 degree cycle. As with other alpaca items, do not tumble dry your socks and instead allow them to dry naturally. Drying of Alpaca Garments Please do not wring the garment. Instead, rinse by pressing, and wrap in a dry towel to absorb excess water. Re-shape it if necessary and then lay flat on a towel to dry naturally.

Do not tumble dry, as this will cause your items to shrink. Do not hang your garment on a line to dry as this may cause it to stretch.

As above, the safest way to dry alpaca clothing is to lay out the item on a towel to dry naturally. This will avoid any stretching or shrinking of the fibre. If possible, dry in the open air, but not in direct sunlight.

Can I wash alpaca fur?

Alpaca fur should be dry-cleaned only by a specialist. For day to day care, fur may be de-tangled with a baby’s hair brush. Clean any minor spills by gently rubbing talcum powder into the fur, before shaking or brushing off.

Storage Instructions

Fold or roll gently and store in a cool, dry place. Do not hang your knitwear on a coat hanger as this can cause it to stretch. Protect by storing in a breathable storage bag.
