Dan Moi Jaw Harp

Vietnamese Triple Dan Moi Jew’s Harp This EXCEPTIONAL Triple Dan Moi is a traditional Jew’s harp from the Vietnamese mountain people, the Hmong. Handcrafted by a small number of excellent local artisans, each instrument is a truly unique piece that is both a beautiful item and a joy to play. We’ve been selling this popular item since 2007 and its enduring popularity means we’ve sold over 3000 vietnamese dan moi. We have been buying from the same maker since 2007 so buy with confidence. IMPORTANT SAFETY WARNING This is a traditional musical instrument that must be handled with care. The brass frame and its “tongues” have sharp edges. It is NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN and is intended for adult use only. About the Instrument A Captivating Sound: This brass instrument captivates even novices with its brilliant sound, which is rich in overtones. Its unique triple design allows for a guide to three distinct tones. Effortless Playability: Unlike many other types of Jew’s harps, the Dan Moi does not need to be pressed against your teeth to produce sound. Instead, you simply rest the instrument against your lips and gently pluck the tip of the reed. Create Your Own Effects: The design affords players an almost unlimited range of possibilities for sound effects, as your mouth and tongue are given considerable freedom. You can create a simple echo effect by rhythmically removing the Dan Moi from your lips, or try a tremolo by moving the tip of your tongue inside your mouth. Product Details Length: Approximately 5 cm (1.97 inches). Case: The instrument comes in a protective, hand-carved wooden case that measures approximately 7.5 cm (2.95 inches) long. Materials: Brass. Handmade & Authentic As a handcrafted item, small imperfections in the metal or carvings merely add to the character and authenticity of the piece. You are not buying a mass-produced factory item. The meticulous work of the Hmong artisans ensures that the slit between the frame and reed is barely visible, which allows for a wide variety of sounds, especially in the high ranges. Please note that due to the handmade nature of the product, the actual design may vary slightly from the product photos, but all are the same style.
